Practicalities of therapeutic communication: How to continue

As we will see, there is an overlap between the process of assessment and that of therapeutic communication, since the two areas are intrinsically interconnected. This chapter will continue with the examination of one of the core principles of assessment and therapeutic communication with children, parents and families, namely that acting in the best interests of the child or young person must always be the point of departure. This requires that the child or young person is placed at the centre of all our interactions, whether with parents, caregivers or social and care services.
