ABSTRACT

Our purpose in Chapters 4-6 is to provide an up-to-date account of the structure and functions of the principal components of health and medical services in Japan today. We shall be looking therefore at official government policies for the organization and delivery of health and medical services; at mechanisms for the financing of public health services and personal medical care; at the system of medical benefits and contributions, reimbursements to the service-providers and cost-sharing; and lastly at the organization of hospital services and ambulatory care.
