ABSTRACT
As a scientific discipline of inquiry, psychometric theory makes extensive use of statistical and mathematical methods and models. There are two primary purposes that statistics is utilized for in psychometric theory and its applications-description and inference. This chapter reviews a number of important statistical concepts, which will be of relevance in the rest of this book.
