Accents and Stresses

Speech in any language is not a monotonous succession of words. Apart of a certain word, the whole word or a group of words is uttered more forcibly than others, that is, accented or stressed.

For the sake of clearness in explanation the word "stress" is here meant to represent the more forcible utterance of a word or a group of words, and the word "accent" to represent the more forcible utterance of a syllable in a word.
