ABSTRACT

Throughout a teacher’s career they will come to know about the practical side of teaching while developing knowledge of what can and should be taught. On the one hand, teachers tend to make similar choices because there is something about ‘graduateness’ that can be understood and broadly defined, and after three or four years at a university students will have many values in common with those who have had a similar experience. On the other hand, each teacher has a lot of freedom in teaching and ideas about what to teach differ between individuals and often change over time. Conscious inspection of teaching can include both the subject of values and values as subject matter.
