ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we present the empowerment-planning model that was introduced for the HEPRO partners on several occasions, and that was an important part of the training programme for the partners. The model has been developed over a long period and is based on our action research in neighbourhoods, municipalities, and local and regional communities. The action research process has had the same characteristics as what we, in Chapter 1, called the epistemology of social practice. The model took form in a combination of radical practice and critical reflections and is well documented in my doctoral thesis (R. Amdam, 1997a; 1997b). In this chapter, we will introduce some of the theoretical foundations of the model and we will outline the model as it was presented for the HEPRO project.
