ABSTRACT

A few years ago during the †rst day of the Full Range Leadership Development (FRLD) course, acon†dent executive MBA student stood up and made abold statement. He said, “John, I’m expecting nothing less from this class than a Saul of Tarsus transformation!”And John wouldn’t have expected anything less challenging from Phillip O’Reilly, who, at the time, was a swashbuckling CEO of an entrepreneurial †rm specializing in mergers and acquisitions. Phil’s positive attitude, intelligence, and enthusiasm inspired many business associates and friends. His gregarious and charming personality added to his love for adventure in all aspects of his life. Phil would often take colleagues and friends scuba diving or on rides in his small-craft airplanes. His zest for life and risk-taking behavior were apparent whether he was talking to his employees about his Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ) results or charting the course for his next business venture or airplane glider trip.
