ABSTRACT
Lisa was bristling with excitement as she drove north along Interstate 81 through the beautiful Endless Mountains region of Pennsylvania. She was returning home to Binghamton, New York, after visiting PhillyCarShare™, a nonpro†t organization that provides its members with access to a •eet of cars on an hourly basis. ‹is organization has won numerous awards for its environmentally friendly and sustainable approach to reducing dependence on automobiles through the sharing of community resources. ‹is ecologically sound and †nancially smart business model caught Lisa’s attention when she discussed with her community group ways to make businesses in the triple cities of Binghamton, Johnson City, and Endicott more ecologically aware. Students and others in the academic community at Binghamton University were doing their part. By now it was time for yearlong residents to make their contributions.
