ABSTRACT
Kabuki plays, that is, plays of the popular theatre, are in form distinctly similar to European drama. In them the dialogue and monologue are sometimes in part metrical. Such portions are spoken to the accompaniment of the samisen, a three-stringed guitar, the finest of all Japanese instruments.
