ABSTRACT

The Lesbian and Gay Pride march in 1985 was the largest London had ever seen. Among the 15,000 people gathered together in Hyde Park, a particular place of honour was given to members of the mining communities of South Wales, and lesbians and gays who had supported them in their year-long struggle against pit closures. I had not been a member of Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners (LGSM) but I joined that part of the crowd because I wanted to identify with this alliance between my own community and one of the most active sections of the organized working class.
