ABSTRACT

I Susan Hemmings: This book is a history book. The lives and struggle of lesbians and gay men are at last being recorded, not just as ‘coming out’ stories, but in terms of full, politically active struggle. During the past few years we have seen a steady movement to archive the experiences of older lesbians and gay men, with writings, audio-tapes, videos and films. This book is part of that desire to record, before it is too late, our recent efforts to change our lives and the wider context in which we live them, before a pall of silence falls on the important events of the post-Wolfenden era.
