ABSTRACT

As young children develop the ability to speak, they gain the ability to communicate their thoughts, beliefs, desires, and feelings. Language development advances at an exponential rate early in development, and with it, the tools for communicating open up the world as a place lled with social interactions and new information. Communication, and especially spoken language, is integral to facilitating a child’s ability to think about his or her internal and external representations of the world.
