ABSTRACT
There is an important difference between the phenomenon of hypnosis itself and the ceremony that presumably elicits it. Trance phenomena may occur spontaneously or in response to a variety of induction ceremonies, as long as the patient has hypnotic capacity and is not aesthetically offended by the ceremony.
