ACA Code of Ethics Standard A. 12, “Technology Applications” governs distance counseling. In 2005 the ACA Code of Ethics was revised. In 2006 ACA Chief Professional Officer, D. M. Kaplan interviewed Ethics Revision Task Force members for the purpose of enlarging on substantive changes in the revised code. During 2006 ACA presented those interviews in consecutive issues of the Counseling Today magazine (hard copy and online at https://www.counseling.org/ Publications/CounselingToday.aspx). The interview on Ethical Use of Technology in Counseling is in the October 2006 issue. In 2009, the Journal of Counseling and Development presented the complete set of interviews in one article (Kaplan et al., 2009). During the interviews, task force members gave priority to three A. 12 statements: Laws and Statutes, Informed Consent, and Access.
