ABSTRACT

The basic themes set out in the introduction are condensed into three categories: the ‘law of value’ as the principle of production; base/superstructure conceptualised as its practice in society; and the ‘historical necessity’ of class struggle, as an inherent contradiction in the mode of production, culminating in revolution as its outcome. These core concepts of value, ‘base’ and necessity create a powerful sociology of the world of production that allows little scope for the political.
