ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the critical issues of peace and education within the university setting through a deconstructive lens that strive to hold the other in fundamental alterity in the realm of the cosmopolitical, which image the possibility of peace through the eyes of the other. The chapter provides another key block in the foundation of metaphysics for the field of peace education within the academy. Peace education, then, as a sub-field of the larger discipline of peace studies, is ideally positioned within the academic arena to pose and have this metaphysical conversation that would explore the ontological and epistemological grounds upon which both the larger discipline of peace studies stands, as well as the philosophical foundations for peace education itself. The chapter provides the metaphysical foundation of Lvinasian and Derridean ontology a framework that could open the doors to the possibility of an exploration of the question of peace as peace.
