ABSTRACT

Ieyasu now went up to visit Nobunaga at Azuchi, taking with him Anayama Baisetsu, formerly chief retainer of Takeda Shingen. Here he was splendidly treated and shown round the castle, and taken up to the top of the keep to enjoy the splendid view over the surrounding country, after which he inspected the landscape gardens, of which Nobunaga was very proud. He was also entertained at a No performance, and the usual valuable presents of horses, weapons, and gold were tendered by him. Nobunaga served him at dinner with his own hand, as was usual with highly honoured guests. Akechi Mitsuhide was the supervisor of the entertainment.
