ABSTRACT

After the fall of Osaka and the removal of his opponents, Ieyasu went on a hawking tour from Shizuoka to Edo, combining politics with exercise, as was his custom. Ieyasu was as fond of his hawks as Hideyoshi was of his elegant buildings, as the fact of his having ordered a servant to be executed about this time for damaging one of them well illustrates. It may be compared to the crucifixion of the boys by Hideyoshi for scribbling on his gates.
