ABSTRACT

There now begins a sequence of passages from the novels of Charles Dickens. Dickens (1812-1870) is a less sly, a more passionate, and an angrier writer than his near contemporary Anthony Trollope (1815-1882), and, in places, he is accessible to children. The rst book I’m going to cite here, A Christmas Carol, is especially accessible because many of the children will have seen one or more of the several feature lms based on it. Indeed, the Muppets version, with Michael Caine as Scrooge, would be an excellent lm to show children in school at Christmas time.
