ABSTRACT

This section of my book is coming to an untidy end. As deadline approaches, I am aware of other writing ideas (despite its position, this is the last section I wrote) which I am sure will work with children – but I haven’t had time to collect examples. For example, I often read the rst chapter of Genesis to children, and suggest that they write their own stories about the beginnings of things. I link it up with creation stories from other traditions, which are available in Van Wolde 1996, and also:

Rudyard Kipling’s • Just So Stories, especially ‘How the Elephant Got His Nose’ and

Ted Hughes • How the Whale Became.
