ABSTRACT
Whenever the political skies look especially clear, the Japan Communist Party (JCP) raises the idea of a democratic coalition regime coming to power in the years ahead. Given the archconservatism of the Japanese majority, which includes the better-dead-than-red psychology of the extreme right wing, and the known anti-Communism of the Self-Defense Forces, such a goal would appear very difficult-if not downright hopeless.
