GIANT MULTINATIONAL CORPORATIONS: MERITS AND DEFECTS
Giant multinational corporations have been much condemned in recent years. They gain profits from direct foreign investments stretching around the globe, using vertical and horizontal integration to make even greater profits. This usually leads to monopolistic or oligopolistic conditions in the industries in which they operate. The costs and gains of this type of economic organisation must be carefully examined, and it is the aim of this chapter to consider the merits and demerits of the giant multinational corporation.
