ABSTRACT
Introduction This monograph contains the results of a field survey on Japanese manufacturing affiliates in the UK conducted for the (UK) Department of Industry between July 1983 and March 1984. It is based on data provided by all the affiliates known to be operating at 30 June 1983, supplemented by published information (e.g. official statistics, company accounts, journal articles, etc.). Information and opinions were also obtained from 20 suppliers and 12 competitors of Japanese affiliates in the UK.
