ABSTRACT

A tenet of this book is that that all schools can and should become places that foster security, and therefore curiosity, and that this will happen when two fundamental conditions are met. The fi rst is that teachers and leaders understand the concept of a secure base at a deep level. Second, this knowledge is actively used to create structures that facilitate the emergence of security for each other and for students. From that notion I imagined security fl owing like water throughout the school. If one imagines the school as a delta, security fl ows from the main river, the Principal or leadership team as parent surrogate, and branches out in streams that further divide within the school community.
