ABSTRACT

Personal recount text is one of the easiest types of non-fiction writing, since first-person narrative comes naturally to human beings. We all tell stories about our lives, and there is probably a need to tidy memory into a neat narrative form.

However, personal recount covers a range of different types of text, from the informal, subjective writing in personal diaries and letters, to the formal, objective writing up of a science experiment. The issue of purpose and audience is often particularly significant in the writing of personal recounts.
