ABSTRACT

As we were planning this collection, we wondered how common qualitative research techniques had become in the field today. Our sense was that they were used frequently but probably still represented a distinct minority approach to technical communication research. Since he was about to teach the capstone research course in Mercer University’s master of science program in technical communication management during the summer of 2008, George Hayhoe decided to propose this question to one of the research teams in the course. “Qualitative Research in Technical Communication: A Review of Articles Published from 2003 to 2007” by Debbie Davy and Christina Valecillos is the result of that assignment.
