ABSTRACT

My study has attempted to explore gender and class dynamics among Urasenke chado¯ practitioners in Akita city. In order to investigate these issues, I posed three research questions. In this chapter, I aim to use those findings to answer my last question: What is the significance of Urasenke chado¯ in women’s lives in Akita city? I will first introduce practitioners’ comments on chado¯ and review my findings on gender and class questions and then describe the theoretical and methodological implications of this book. Finally, I will summarize my findings and raise questions both for future research of chado¯ and the future of Urasenke chado¯ itself.
