ABSTRACT
Five distinct sources of international law can be identified from Article 38(1) of the Statute of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) which is generally taken to be the classic statement of the sources of international law. They are:
• Treaties • International custom • General principles of international law • Judicial decisions • The writings of publicists.
