ABSTRACT

According to Wilson and Cameron (1996: 190) ‘a successful instructional environment is one where pupils are on task and settled’, allowing them to concentrate on their learning. Thus the organisation and management of pupils during a lesson is a key factor to ensure that effective learning takes place. In respect of PE this would be reflected in pupils being actively engaged ‘on task’. That is, they are involved in motor and other activities related to the subject matter in such a way as to produce a high degree of success, with intended learning outcomes (ILOs) of the lesson more likely to be met.
