ABSTRACT

As per the U.S. Census Bureau (2000), there are 1,076,872 Koreans living in the United States. This is an increase of about 35% from 1990, which recorded 798,849 Koreans. Of the approximately 1.1 million Koreans in the United States, 77% were foreign born and speak a language other than English at home. A majority of the Koreans living in the United States are from South Korea, and many live in large urban cities like Los Angeles and New York City. Other states with a significant Korean American presence include New Jersey, Illinois, Texas, Washington, and West Virginia (U.S. Census Bureau, 1990, 2000).
