ABSTRACT

Thailand is a Southeast Asian country with an area of 198,456 square miles, which is approximately twice the area of the state of Wyoming (Mulder, 2000). The population of Thailand is 65,068,149, with an ethnic composition of 75% Thai, 14% Chinese, and 11% other, the latter including Malaysian, Laotian, Cambodian, Indian, and Vietnamese. Thai is the official language. Other languages spoken include English, Chinese, and Malay (Ratner, 2000). Roughly 94.6% of the population is Buddhist, 4.6% Muslim, and 0.7% Christian.
