ABSTRACT

For the first time in the series of editions that have made up Counselor Preparation, the 12th edition included a chapter about counselor training outside the United States and listed individual university data from foreign counselor education programs along with the individual university data from the United States. This first attempt encompassed countries from all over the world. The decision to expand Counselor Preparation to address training outside the U.S. was influenced by NBCC's increasing collaboration with counseling leadership in other countries, including leaders of training programs. It also was decided that future editions of Counselor Preparation would include international components. In this present edition of the book, the authors have decided to concentrate on trends in the counseling profession in Central and South America. This edition also presents data from other regions around the world. Future editions will highlight other world regions in the international chapter. The authors hope that continued international development will help define the future of the counseling profession.
