ABSTRACT

This chapter analyzes issues in international research collaborations that emerge from variations in aspects of national research management systems and research practices, in the context of collaborations between China and other countries. It also discusses strategies for promoting extensive and indepth collaborations. The chapter begins with a brief introduction to the Chinese research management system and the main features of international scientific and technological cooperation involving China, and then puts forward some suggestions on how to enhance collaborations. Finally, it discusses what roles governments should play in facilitating international research collaborations.
