ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on families and their complex dynamics in the context of divorce. The chapter contains stories that reflect well the mixture of perceived chaos and resilience in the minds of so many young people who have experienced divorce in their families. It shows that, even in painful divorce circumstances, there is a complex mix of feelings and outcomes. These positive and negative experiences may occur simultaneously. This amalgam of experiences is shown to a greater degree in the stories in this chapter than was true in the previous narrative chapters. The other narrative chapters also included diverse commentary on the role of family in the divorces being described. But in this chapter, the centrality of the family comes into even sharper focus in the stories.
