ABSTRACT
The Centro Sociale Leoncavallo is the most popular ‘centro sociale’ (social centre) in Italy, with more than thirty years of activity in the town of Milan. As to its connection with social movements and civil society, the history of the Centre can be divided into three main phases: this sequence shows how the Social Centre has always been part of larger urban and national movements, even if in a dialectical and innovative relationship.2
