ABSTRACT

I. Lawrence Kohlberg’s important work1 has been enormously influential within psychology. What is more surprising is its effect on philosophy, where it has evoked numerous responses from philosophers of various schools, both here and abroad. It matters not that many, perhaps most, of these responses have been to a greater or lesser degree critical. The interesting fact is that he managed to stimulate a new level of exchange between the two fields. I count this as one of Kohlberg’s most important achievements.
