ABSTRACT

In Chapter 9, Figure 9.4 provided a sketch of components contributing to successful event management in organizations. It’s a summary of ways an organization’s systems can help shape individual behavior to produce desired results. But, as we’ve seen, there are limitations to the infl uence an organization has on its stakeholders and, regardless of the detail pro vided in Figure 9.4, it is only a superfi cial picture of a truly remarkable phenomenon: organizational dynamics. In this and subsequent chapters complexity theory is used again to reveal more robust strategies for thinking about and maximizing individual and organizational effectiveness.
