ABSTRACT

There are reasons we join the organizations we do. Think about your “social self,” the person who works, studies, lives, prays and/or plays in the context of others. You engage in these activities in a number of different organizations. In fact, it’s virtually impossible to imagine anyone who is not part of or affiliated with some organization. Sometimes we’re born into these organizations, like the religions, cultures or the political parties we support, and other times we voluntarily join them, like sports clubs or places where we work or live.
