ABSTRACT
If this were a book on the German underground opposition only, there would be no space in it for the epic struggle of the Church to preserve the purity of its doctrine against the totalitarian aspirations of Nazism. For that straggle is anything but underground; it was, from the first, very much above ground; indeed, all its significance, all its effectiveness, and its very existence depended on its being distinctly outspoken and clearly visible.
