ABSTRACT

Unlike the last essay, which focused on preservice teachers in their senior year, the next essay, like Sean’s discussion, is from the experience of MSU interns in their postgraduate, fifth year of teacher preparation. During this year, the interns participate in an intense fieldbased learning experience. They are only enrolled in education courses and generally do not take on outside work, though schools are often able to find ways to pay them for work done during the internship year. During this year, they are beginning teachers more often than university students. Except for the days during which they are in their on-campus seminars, they dress in the professional garb common to their field placements. It is a year of transition.
