ABSTRACT

While generalist teachers are increasingly faced with teaching Bilingual Learners (BLs), most are unprepared; yet, it is critical to understand the preparation needed for this student population. Research is abundant regarding the qualities and behaviors of exemplary teachers in general education settings (Allington & Johnston, 2000; Snow, Barnes, Chandler et al., 1991); however, there is limited research of eŒective teachers for BLs (García, 1991; TikunoŒ, 1983). ’is chapter presents a case study of an exemplary generalist teacher of BLs in an Englishimmersion classroom.
