ABSTRACT
Carthage’s relations with Rome went back many centuries, as shown earlier. They were mainly commercial and were regulated from 509 on by the rst treaty between the two, which laid down how merchants from Rome should and should not do business in Carthaginian territories, and made stipulations about attacks on cities in each other’s neighbourhoods. These stipulations, so far as is known, never had to be acted upon.
