If we think about pedagogy in terms of its European roots, then teaching and learning become more purposely linked such that stereo typical views (and practices) of teaching as telling must be challenged because any sense of pedagogy as a one-way process is counter to its underlying meaning. In one sense, Paulo Freire (1972) highlighted this point through his description of the banking method of teaching (information being deposited) which, as he made clear, is far from education as transformation.
