Synthesis is the process of putting all the parts of something together to make up a coherent whole. As the previous chapters have made clear, there are a number of elements that influence learning. No single element of learning is sufficient for understanding. Rather, there is a need for learners to continually build and refine their knowledge, skills, feelings and attitudes in ways that might help to broaden what it is they know about a topic and how to use that knowledge in different situations. Synthesising is a way to create a coherent whole at a particular point in time.
