ABSTRACT

Three postulates lie at the root of the functionalist’s return to an evolutionary perspective to provide a theory of social change: differentiation, reintegration and adaptation. Taken together, they form the essentials of an overall framework for the analysis of change, intended to satisfy both sympathisers and critics of functionalism.
