ABSTRACT

Is FL/OSS development only about programming? Is programming only about programming? The heavily technological, software-production orientation of FL/OSS projects would seem to render such questions redundant. Yet, when browsing some of the project websites, even those hosted on large source code repositories, it is clear that there are many other dimensions to FL/OSS development. One of the most obvious is the people who maintain these websites and manage the infrastructure for software development. For example, who manages the VCS accounts and updates websites? Who responds to queries and maintains the Help/Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) sections? The complexity of the tasks involved increases with the size of the project, making them more distinctive, and the roles easier to identify.
