ABSTRACT

In this chapter we look at children playing roles in order to explore real life and beyond. We look at the rules they draw on, some of which are confusing and contradictory. Here children try out in safety what might happen if or replay what has already happened in order to try and make sense of it. In this way they can explore the things that scare and concern them. We also look at what is sometimes called unacceptable play and discuss things like operating a zero tolerance policy with regard to guns and weapons. This is not about play therapy but about play as part of normal life.
