ABSTRACT

This final chapter summarises what has been said about how to explicitly recognise the importance of play as a serious and essential mode of learning for both very young children and older children. It looks at what practitioners do to promote play in classrooms and settings and at how other people involved in the lives and learning of children can be persuaded that what children do is not ‘just play’. The voices are those of practitioners and others as they explain their thinking. They are the voices we should listen to.
