ABSTRACT

The aim of this chapter is to outline a British armed forces perspective on countering terrorism since World War II, within the frameworks of their approach to intelligence and security in general and of overall British government policy in this field. The chapter then outlines how the British have worked with their colleagues inside the European Union to meet the challenge of current terrorist threats in a networked world. The first snapshot provides one bottom-up perspective, the second one top-down one; there are of course many others.
