ABSTRACT

The promotion of physical activity among Canadian youth is of great importance in today’s society; however, it is important to understand how to get the most out of exercise during the growing years, as well as the associated risks of physical activity. One long recognized risk for children has been exercising in the heat and the associated sweat-induced dehydration that occurs (Maughan and Noakes, 1996; Maughan et al., 1997), posing negative effects on cardiovascular function, thermoregulation, and exercise performance (Cheuvront et al., 2003; Coyle, 2004).
